On Wednesday, August 13th, 2014, Ethos Youth Center in Mariposa, CA will be hosting the first in a series of six slam poetry workshops, taught by Taj, a local poet. Slam poetry focuses on self expression and encourages the individual to find his or her voice. One of the best things about poetry slam is the diversity of poets it attracts. There is a diverse range of work within slam, including heartfelt love poetry, searing social commentary, uproarious comic routines, and bittersweet personal confessional pieces, according to Poetry Slam, Inc.

Poets are free to write and read in any style and on any topic. This workshop series will be open to any youth 13-19 years old in the mountain community! The first workshop, held at 5079 Hwy 140, Suite B in Mariposa, will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13th.
