March 13, 2020 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the Southern Sierra Nevada above 4,000 feet from 5:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon until 5:00 A.M. early Tuesday morning.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow accumulations that may impact travel.

The majority of this snow will fall Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon.

Travel could be extremely difficult or impossible.

If you plan to travel, consider alternate strategies.

If you must travel, remember to carry tire chains, plenty of food, a good deal of water, and warm clothing in your vehicle.

THROUGH LATE MONDAY NIGHT...

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible starting Saturday evening through
  late Monday night. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet are
  possible between 4,000 and 7,000 feet. Localized accumulations
  as high as 3 feet above 8,000 feet. Winds could gust as high as
  30-40 mph along exposed ridgetops and near the crest.

* WHERE...Southern Sierra.

* WHEN...From Saturday afternoon through late Monday night.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The
  hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening
  commute. Conditions could be very dangerous to hikers and
  campers.
