June 22, 2020 - Mariposa County Health and Human Services Public Health Branch reports two additional positive COVID-19 cases in Mariposa County residents. The new cases are a married couple, both of whom are symptomatic. The female (age 79) is currently hospitalized while the male (age 80) is in home isolation. These cases were tested at John C. Fremont Hospital, where they interacted with eight employees, all of whom are being evaluated for exposure. In addition to the health care staff, the Contact Tracing team has identified an additional six local contacts and 28 contacts from outside of Mariposa County. The 28 contacts from outside the county were associated with a gathering. These two cases are believed to be a result of community transmission from Merced County.

At this time, there is no evidence of community transmission inside Mariposa County, however we are asking residents to work with us to prepare for the expectation of community transmission within our county. We remind everyone to practice good hand hygiene, stay home if you are sick, practice social distancing, wear a face covering in public, cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid touching your face. Please limit gatherings to the restrictions described in the California Department of Public Health guidelines.

We encourage the public to stay tuned to the Mariposa County Public Health’s Facebook page and County website, where we will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
