July 9, 2020 - Washington, D.C. — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the retirement of Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, following a campaign of intimidation and persecution from the President:

“History will remember Lieutenant Colonel Vindman as an American patriot, who proved his heroism both on the battlefield when he earned a Purple Heart and in the House impeachment trial when he spoke truth to power.

“The shameful firing of Lieutenant Colonel Vindman from the White House was a clear and brazen act of retaliation that showcases the President’s fear of the truth, which continues to this day.  The firing was one of countless instances of the President putting his personal interest above our national security.

“It is sad that America is losing this patriotic soldier because of the President’s cruel vindictiveness and disrespect for the Constitution and our national security.”
