MCSO Bass Lake

September 7, 2021 - On Monday, September 6, 2021, shortly after 6:00 P.M., the Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding a two-year-old male that had possibly drowned at Rocky Point shoreline.

While deputies were enroute to the location, the father of the child began CPR and reported the child was not responding. Several minutes later the child was reported to be responding and crying after two rounds of CPR performed by his father. MCSO Boat Patrol Corporal Roussell and Deputy Murphy arrived on scene within minutes of the initial call and observed the child to be alert and crying while being held by his father.

In addition to MCSO Boat Patrol Unit Deputies, MCSO Patrol Deputies, CAL Fire, EMS and CHP H-40 responded to the area. The child was loaded and transported by EMS to a nearby location where he was transferred to H-40 and medi-flighted to a regional hospital for treatment.

Sheriff Tyson Pogue states, “We are very grateful for the positive outcome of this critical call for service. The swift actions of the victim’s family, deputies, and our local allied agencies prevented a tragedy, and should be commended.”
