March 20, 2022 - Merced – Merced Police Officers find robbery suspect hiding in bushes on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Officers with the Merced Police Department responded to the Family Clothes store MPD Olvialocated at 1366 West Olive Avenue in the City of Merced for a robbery. Multiple witnessed described the suspect as a heavy set Hispanic Male Adult wearing khaki-colored pants, black shirt, and a cloth mask. While checking the area, Officer Tyler McCannon noticed a subject, later identified as Rafael Olvia (29) breathing heavy and trying to hide in the bushes. Olvia was cooperative with officers and later placed under arrest. Olvia admitted to the robbery and was positively identified by the victim. Olvia was transported to the Merced County Jail where he was booked for strong arm robbery.
