July 21, 2022 – The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office reports on an early morning accident in the Merced River area near Bagby.

Sometimes being in the right place at the right time isn’t for your benefit but it’s for someone else’s. That was the case today for a group doing research in a creek that runs into the Merced River near Bagby. While walking up the dry creek bed they came across a vehicle that had gone over the embankment with someone still inside. The female driver told rescuers she had gone over the embankment sometime around 2:00 A.M. the morning of 7/21/2022. The research group was able to call 911 (after finding cell service).

CALFIRE, CHP, Mercy Ambulance, the Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue responded to the scene. The vehicle was approximately 200-250 feet over the bank.

The CALFIRE helicopter was able to hoist the victim out and transport her to a valley hospital. Search and Rescue was able to assist rescuers down to the victim. We have no information on the type of vehicle or the victim. For specific details on the accident please contact CHP.
