April 8, 2023 – Mariposa County Sheriff's Office officials report that California 4th District Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil visited the area to view the recent storm damage in Mariposa County.
Sheriff Briese said, The more eyes the better and when those eyes are the law makers and the money holders it’s better than better.
With that in mind Sheriff Briese coordinated a tour of some of the damaged and destroyed areas caused by our latest snow & flood disaster with our California 4th District Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil.
The Senator came to Mariposa yesterday and toured parts of the county today with Sheriff Briese, Public Works Director Shannon Hanson and Board of Supervisors Miles Menetrey and Rosemarie Smallcombe.
After lengthy conversations the Senator heard from Sheriff Briese about the importance of state and federal agencies realizing the need to change the current requirements and thresholds for damages to rural areas, as well as the need for faster reimbursements for said damages. They also spoke about how well all the agencies have been working together, local, state and federal all with the same mission in mind, to help Mariposa County and the communities within it. The way government was intended to work.
We are thankful the Senator visited our county and look forward to a continued partnership into the future.
