January 27, 2024 - Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office officials report that on December 9, 2023, Deputy Egbert opened a cell door to allow male inmate out for dinner service. He exited and immediately climbed over the second-floor tier railing in an apparent attempt at self-harm.

Deputy Egbert responded by quickly grabbing onto his jumpsuit as he started to fall. Another inmate nearby rushed over to assist the deputy, and together they were able to keep the man from falling as additional deputies and inmates rushed to help.

After the man was safely pulled back over the railing he was seen by medical staff and determined to be uninjured.
