February 2, 2024 - Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they are currently investigating a serious criminal case between multiple Students on the Mariposa County High School Basketball Team, two Juveniles have been arrested on multiple sex crimes.

As a result of the investigation Pierce Chaney, Head Coach of the boys basketball team, has also been arrested. Chaney is charged with Felony Child Abuse and Misdemeanor Failure to Report as a mandated reporter. He has not been charged with any sex crimes.

We continue working closely with the Mariposa County School District to ensure student safety and protect the victims and witnesses involved. This is still an active case as we continue to investigate. Due to this case involving juveniles, no additional details can be released.
