April 20, 2024 - Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office officials report on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at approximately 11:50 A.M., deputies responded to a distress call concerning a person stranded in the Tuolumne River, clinging to a rope line beneath the 7th Street Bridge in Modesto. The individual was aboard a makeshift raft which sank, leaving them in a precarious situation. Fortunately, the individual managed to hold onto a longline hanging from the bridge for their own safety.

Deputies promptly deployed a drone using our Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) to gather surveillance of the situation. They coordinated efforts with Stanislaus Consolidated and the Modesto Fire Department, who were en route to conduct the rescue operation aboard Boat 24.

Due to the swift response and collaborative efforts, the individual was safely rescued and transported to a local hospital for observation.

We urge the public to prioritize safety when engaging in outdoor activities, including checking water conditions and wearing appropriate life vests.
