Man Shot and Killed on Squaw Valley Property 

June 14, 2024 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that the name of a man shot and killed is Burton FCSO shotJones, 49, of Squaw Valley.  The man arrested for this shooting is Jerry Beggs, 56, of Squaw Valley.  He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail.  His charges are pending a review by the District Attorney’s Office.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Fresno County Sheriff’s dispatchers received a 911 call of a shooting at a property on the 38000 block of Squaw Valley Road.  Deputies responded to the scene and found a man, later identified as Burton Jones, outdoors on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.  Deputies provided medical aid to Jones, but he died a short time later at the scene.  Deputies contacted the property owner, Jerry Beggs (pictured), and determined he was responsible for the shooting.  He was placed under arrest.

Homicide detectives and members of our Crime Scene Unit responded to the property to interview witnesses and collect evidence.  Detectives learned Beggs and Jones were longtime friends.  A disturbance took place between them prior to the shooting.  This remains an ongoing investigation with detectives trying to learn more specific details of what lead up to the shooting.
