August 12, 2024 - LAS VEGAS, NV – Last week, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined her colleagues in submitting an amicus brief to block the Kroger-Albertsons mega-merger that could limit competition and raise grocery prices for Nevadans. In the brief, they urge the Federal District Court for the District of Oregon to grant the Federal Trade Commission’s request for a preliminary injunction to stop the merger. This challenge comes after Senator Rosen successfully urged the FTC to initiate action to block the mega merger.
“At a time when Nevadans are seeing rising costs at the grocery store, corporate mega-mergers like the proposed Kroger-Albertsons one would reduce competition and could increase food prices even more,” said Senator Rosen. “I’ll keep doing everything in my power to lower costs for hardworking Nevada families, and that’s why I joined this effort to request the court to block this anti-competitive merger.”
Senator Rosen has been a leader in fighting to lower costs for hardworking Nevadans. She successfully pushed the FTC to open an investigation of Exxon Mobil’s proposed acquisition of Pioneer Natural Resources that could greatly reduce competition and drive up gas prices at the pump for Nevadans. Senator Rosen also introduced the Housing Oversight and Mitigating Exploitation (HOME) Act to crack down on housing price gouging by corporate investors who are buying up housing stock. Additionally, Senator Rosen helped secure several wins in the Inflation Reduction Act that will help lower energy and health care costs for Nevadans.
