Illegal Parking Leads to Ticketing and Possible Towing
August 18, 2024 – Nevada County Sheriff's Office officials report that the old excuse of “I didn’t see the sign” won’t hold up in court. To those who keep offending, we’ll keep ticketing or towing (or both!) at your expense. In the last few weeks, we’ve issued 46 parking citations for illegal parking at our riverways. For those planning to visit Purdon Crossing, Edwards Crossing or Bridgeport, adhere to no parking signage or risk steep fees and possibly discovering your vehicle has been towed at your expense. Illegal parking fees at these access points start at $162.
We understand folks want to swim at the river, but if you cannot park legally, safely and completely off the road or in designated areas, do not park. In addition to being illegal, river canyons such as the South Yuba River are highly susceptible to wildfire, especially during the hot, dry summer months. Increasing crowds coupled with illegal parking can impact visitors and nearby neighbors' ability to evacuate safely if needed. In addition, it can impede emergency response time and accessibility when crises and rescue situations unfold at the river.
