September 25, 2024 – El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office officials report that earlier this month, based on a tip from the community, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Team (HOT), along with the US Forest Service and CAL FIRE Law Enforcement, responded to a report of an illegal camper set up in a remote area of the US Forest. Upon arrival, an occupied camper and an additional vehicle were located on the property. Both vehicles had expired registration.

After arranging for the vehicles to be towed, a search of the camper uncovered some alarming findings: half an ounce of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded unregistered "ghost" handgun with an extended magazine. One of the individuals involved was a convicted felon.

Both subjects were arrested and booked into El Dorado County Jail on multiple felony charges.
