December 6, 2024 – Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office officials report that last weekend on Saturday, November 30th, 2024, at about 7:30 P.M. in the evening, TCSO deputies responded to the area of Tulloch Road along the river for a report of a man and a woman heard screaming in the canyon. When deputies arrived, they were able to make voice contact with the pair and determined they needed help after becoming stuck in the canyon and wet from attempting to cross the river.
TCSO Search and Rescue responded to the scene. SAR was able to hike down to a steep area about 8 feet above the pair’s location by using trails that followed along the flume. SAR set up a rope system to descend down the final feet of steep terrain to access the pair. The pair was outfitted with helmets and harnesses and assisted out of the steep portion of the canyon using the rope system. Once safely assisted out of the steep area, they were able to hike out with the SAR members using the trails.
We are grateful for the positive outcome and thank everyone involved in making this a successful mission. Attached are pictures from the scene.
