Homicide Investigation in Madera 

January 10, 2025 – Madera County Sheriff’s Office officials report that shortly before 3:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, Madera County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a disturbance on Children’s Boulevard (Avenue 9) in the area of Lanes Bridge and Highway 41 in Madera. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased man on fire in the roadway.

56-year-old Jessie Equilla Brooks of Fresno has been arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail on murder charges related to this case. The identity of the victim is pending notification of next of kin. 

An initial call to dispatch reported a woman had set her husband on fire. An adult female is currently detained, but the relationship between these parties is currently unconfirmed. This investigation is in its preliminary stages.
