East Briggsmore Avenue/Held Drive Crash 

February 20, 2025 – Modesto Police Department officials report that on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 7:22 P.M., MPD fatal crashModesto Police officers responded to a solo vehicle crash on E. Briggsmore Avenue near Held Drive. Upon arrival, officers located two occupants from the vehicle, one suffering major injuries and the other with life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation determined that a Dodge Dakota, driven by a Modesto man, was traveling westbound on E. Briggsmore Avenue when it crossed the railroad tracks at Santa Fe Avenue. The driver lost control, causing the truck to leave the roadway and collide with a tree on the south side of E. Briggsmore.

The passenger, 20-year-old Guadalupe Hernandez from Riverbank, was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver, identified as 34-year-old Anthony Avalos, also suffered major injuries but is expected to survive.
