March 3, 2025 – Madera County Sheriff's Office officials report that on March 1, 2025, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center received an emergency medical call reporting an unresponsive two-year-old.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 32000 block of Avenue 9 in Madera while the father of the child rendered CPR. Within minutes, Deputy Jessica Martinez arrived at the home and took over life saving measures. Deputy Martinez applied her department issued AED (automated external defibrillator) to the child and was able to regain their pulse.

The 18-month-old boy was transferred to the care of EMS and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. He remains in stable condition.

All Madera County Sheriff’s patrol vehicles are equipped with AED devices, and deputies are trained to use this equipment in emergency situations when appropriate. Sheriff Tyson Pogue reflects, “We are incredibly grateful to have life-saving equipment like AEDs available to both our deputies and the public, ensuring that when seconds count, we have the tools to protect and preserve life. Deputy Martinez’s decisive action and training made all the difference in this critical moment, reminding us why readiness and the right resources are so vital to our community’s safety.”
