March 25, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials announce the passing of Fresno Police Officer Ryan Torres.

With great sadness, we announce the loss of a cherished member of our Fresno Police Department family. On Friday, March 21, 2025, Officer Ryan Torres passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Officer Torres served with the Fresno Police Department for over four years. A local native, Ryan was a standout baseball and soccer player at Clovis West High School, graduating in 2015. He was known for his love of playing games with family and friends. 

Ryan was hired as a police academy cadet on February 8, 2021, and quickly became loved by his fellow cadets and instructors for his dedication and drive to serve the law enforcement profession and his community.

Ryan began his career with the Fresno Police Department in the Northwest Policing District and was most recently assigned to the Southeast Policing District. He was known for always having a smile on his face and an energetic attitude. Ryan truly loved serving his community, and he exemplified the highest standards and traditions of the Fresno Police Department. His empathy, understanding, and genuine care for others made him approachable, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand. When assistance was needed, Ryan was the officer everyone wanted by their side.

Ryan had a strong desire to serve in Investigations and as a Field Training Officer, but his ultimate goal was to earn a spot on the Fresno Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. He was actively preparing for the upcoming SWAT exam when he was diagnosed with his illness.

While Ryan deeply loved his work as a police officer, his love for his wife, Zoe, was even greater. She was his greatest supporter and the love of his life, always encouraging him to pursue his dreams.

Ryan will be deeply missed by his family, our department family, and the community he proudly served.
