March 26, 2025 - SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement regarding the death of King City Police Department Sergeant Ryan Kenedy:

“Jennifer and I mourn alongside the King City community over the sudden passing of Sergeant Kenedy. Our hearts are with his loved ones and colleagues.”

On March 25, 2025, Sergeant Kenedy experienced a medical emergency while on-duty and passed away. Sergeant Kenedy began his career with the King City Police Department in 2014 as a patrol officer. He was promoted to Police Sergeant in January 2020. 

He is survived by his wife and parents.

In honor of Sergeant Kenedy, flags at the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space will be flown at half-staff.

Sheriff Tina M. Nieto offers her respects: “With deep regrets, very early this morning King City Sergeant Ryan Kenedy, age 42, passed away unexpectedly while on duty. 

Thank you to all the personnel that responded early this morning to assist our brother in arms with the initial call and handling radio calls for King City, both last night and today.

Thank you to all the agencies and everyone who responded to escort Ryan to the coroner’s office with honors. Rest in peace brother.”

King City Police Department issues statement on passing of Police Sergeant Ryan Kenedy

It is with deep sadness that the King City Police Department shares the passing of a member of our Police Department family. Police Sergeant Ryan Kenedy passed away unexpectedly while on-duty Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at approximately 12:45 a.m. Sergeant Kenedy experienced an apparent medical emergency that ultimately turned fatal.

Sergeant Kenedy began his career with the King City Police Department in July 2014, serving as a patrol officer. In April 2020, Sgt. Kenedy was assigned to the Southern County Major Crimes Unit and then to the King City Police Department Investigations Unit. Sgt. Kenedy was promoted to Police Sergeant in January 2020, where he served until his tragic passing.

Sergeant Kenedy was known by those around him as an intelligent and kind person who showed utmost care and humility towards those he worked with and served. Sergeant Kenedy was a loving and devoted husband and son. Sergeant Kenedy was universally loved by everyone he worked with, and his passing is an immeasurable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues. Please respect the family's privacy during this difficult time.
