April 12, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials report that on Monday April 7, 2025, around 4:45 a.m., Fresno Police officers were dispatched to a confidential location regarding a 9-1-1 call with an open line.

When officers arrived, they determined they were investigating a sexual assault of a minor under 14 years of age and a stabbing of an additional victim. The investigation revealed the suspect, 33-year-old Uriel Contreras, who is known to the victims, walked into the 10-year-old victim’s bedroom, closed the door and sexually assaulted the minor victim. During the assault, the victim bit Contreras’s hand and screamed, causing Contreras to leave the room.

Contreras then entered a nearby room where a male victim was sleeping and proceeded to stab the 32-year-old victim multiple times in the face, chest, and arm. An additional minor child who had been asleep in the room as well, witnessed the violent attack. After the stabbing, Contreras fled the scene. The stabbing victim was transported to CRMC for emergency surgery and is currently in ICU. 

Sexual Assault Unit Detectives took over the investigation and authored an arrest warrant for the suspect and search warrants related to the case. 

Assisting the SAU team, members of the Career Criminal Auto Theft Team, Street Violence Bureau Tactical Team, Adult Compliance Team, and members of the Fresno Sheriff’s Office located Contreras and took Contreras into custody without incident. Contreras is also on parole for assaulting an officer and carjacking. 

Contreras was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail for charges relating to the investigation including attempted murder, assault with intent to commit a serious sex crime, child endangerment, and a parole violation.
