May 3, 2025 – Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they are honored to announce that Sergeant Rudi Leon has been selected to receive the 2025 Light of Hope Award. Each year, since 2017, Prevent Child Abuse Calaveras (PCAC) and Calaveras Court Appointed Special Advocates of Calaveras (CASA) accept nominations to recognize individuals who have provided remarkable support to children.
During his tenure with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Leon has demonstrated a commitment to protecting and supporting children through his professional duties and extensive volunteer efforts.
Sergeant Leon has been responsible for overseeing and conducting child abuse investigations across Calaveras County. His close work with Child Protective Services has ensured investigations are detailed and complete, contributing to protecting the county’s vulnerable children. His work serves as the conduit in maintaining communication between county agencies in crimes against children, including providing recommendations on local committees focused on improving the quality of these investigations.
Outside of his investigative responsibilities, Sergeant Leon actively participates in fundraising efforts with the Calaveras Crisis Center to support professional services provided during sexual assault investigations. His commitment stems from a genuine desire for child victims to receive the care and resources needed. In addition, Sergeant Leon mentors, leads, and coaches in local youth sports programs, guiding and encouraging children in person.
As President of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association, Sergeant Leon leads initiatives to support the youth of Calaveras County. Most of his contributions, whether through committee work, fundraising, or mentoring, are undertaken on a volunteer basis. This reflects his genuine desire to make a difference in Calaveras County.
Sergeant Leon’s exemplary efforts have had a profound impact on the children of Calaveras County, and I submit this nomination with great respect and appreciation.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is proud of Sergeant Rudi Leon for his notable achievements and unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the community he serves. His dedication and genuine concern for public safety reflect our department's core values. By fostering positive relationships within the community and actively participating in outreach initiatives, Sergeant Leon has made a significant impact that extends beyond law enforcement duties.
