In Loving Memory of K9 Arco
June 1, 2025 – Madera County Sheriff’s Office officials and the Madera County Sheriff’s Foundation are saddened to share the passing of retired K9 Arco, who died on May 20, 2025, from age-related causes.
K9 Arco began his service in October 2016 and faithfully served until his retirement in March 2023 alongside his handler, Sergeant Drew Kirchert. During his career, Arco was deployed 967 times, apprehended 62 suspects, supported the Madera County Regional SWAT Team, and represented our office at numerous community events.
Beyond his incredible service, Arco was a beloved companion known for his unique personality—including a love for destroying Kong Balls. Sergeant Kirchert recalls the comfort and protection Arco provided during their long shifts together, and even the times Arco barked to help him stay awake on the drive home.
Arco was laid to rest at Sergeant Kirchert’s family farm, surrounded by members of the K9 Unit who knew and loved him.
Sheriff Tyson Pogue shared, “K9 Arco will be greatly missed by the Sheriff’s Office, the Sheriff’s Foundation, and the deputies who had the honor to serve with him.” Sheriff Pogue also extended his gratitude to the Madera County Sheriff’s Foundation, whose continued support ensures our K9s are cared for throughout their careers.
Thank you, K9 Arco, for your loyalty, bravery, and service. You will never be forgotten.
