Homicide Arrest on Monterey Street

June 1, 2025 – Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on May 28, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., deputies assigned to KCSO murderMetropolitan Patrol were dispatched to the 2400 block of Monterey Street to the report of a stabbing that had just occurred. Multiple reporting parties called Sheriff’s Office dispatch and stated a man, later identified as 44-year-old Rafael Estrada, had severely injured his wife.

The Sheriff’s Office Air Unit was in the area at the time of the call and saw Estrada exit a residence and flee in a white truck. The Air Unit followed Estrada as he fled and continually updated pursuing deputies with his location and direction of flight. Estrada led deputies on a vehicle pursuit which terminated in the 9900 block of Ramos Avenue in south Bakersfield. Deputies utilized Sheriff’s Office K9 to apprehend Estrada.

Deputies located a deceased woman with severe trauma inside the residence on Monterey Street. Deputies transported Estrada to Kern Medical to be medically cleared. Upon medical clearance, Estrada will be booked into the Sheriff’s Office Jail for a violation of PC 187(a) – homicide.
