June 5, 2025 – CAL FIRE officials announce that last weekend, CAL FIRE responded to a call for help—not for flames, but for feathers.

Crews arrived to find a hawk tangled 60 feet up in a driving range net, unable to free itself. With assistance from the Yucaipa Police Department, firefighters carefully rescued the bird and transported it to a wildlife rehabilitation center, where it is now receiving professional care and evaluation.

Thank you to all involved for the strong work and quick response. This is what protecting California looks like—no matter the species.
