June 14, 2025 – CAL FIRE officials announce that during California Invasive Species Action Week it’s important to remember that moving firewood may seem harmless, but it can spread invasive pests that destroy forests and ecosystems.

Bugs like the emerald ash borer hitchhike on wood and wreak havoc miles away. 

Always buy firewood where you burn it. Protect trees, parks, and communities—don’t give pests a free ride.
