Swift Response at Rainbow Falls

July 15, 2025 – Madera County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Friday, July 11th, Deputy Rich—assigned to the Eastern Sierra region—responded quickly to a call for help after an 8-year-old hiker suffered a severe foot injury at Rainbow Falls.

Thanks to his proximity near Reds Meadow, Deputy Rich arrived on foot and assisted the family in carrying the injured child 1.5 miles back to safety.

The family transported the child to Mammoth Hospital, where they received the care they needed.

“Our job is simple but serious: protect the innocent, uphold the law, and stand ready when our community needs us most,” said Sheriff Tyson Pogue.
