TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 59, 99, 140 & 165 

July 25, 2025 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Inte6rstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59), SR-99, SR-140 and SR165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through July 31 August 31, 2025.

o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

STATE ROUTE 59

  • Long-term lane/shoulder closures northbound and southbound 16th Street Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 99

  • Full off-ramp closure southbound SR-99 at South Avenue Over-Crossing for landscape/irrigation work on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
  • Full on-ramp closure southbound SR-99 at South Avenue Over-Crossing for landscape/irrigation work on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
  • Alternating lane closures northbound SR-99 from Bert Crane Road to the Merced/Stanislaus County Line for sweeping work beginning Monday, July 28, 2025, through Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
  • Alternating lane closures southbound SR-99 from the Merced/Stanislaus County Line to the West Atwater Over-Head for sweeping work beginning Wednesday, July 30, 2025, through Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 140

  • One-way traffic control from South Avenue to Sixth Avenue/Fourth Street for utility work beginning Monday, July 28, 2025, through Friday, August 1, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 165

  • One-way traffic control from Mercy Springs Road Over-Crossing to Charleston Avenue for highway construction work beginning Tuesday, July 29, through Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • One-way traffic control from Charleston Avenue to Middle Road for highway construction work beginning Wednesday, July 30, through Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • One-way traffic control from Mercy Springs Road Over-Crossing to California Aqueduct Bridge for highway construction work beginning Tuesday, July 29, 2025, through Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
  • One-way traffic control at Greer Avenue for utility work beginning Tuesday, July 29, 2025, through Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible.

This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
