September 12, 2025 - SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Community Colleges Chancellor Sonya Christian released california community colleges logothe following statement on the U.S. Department of Education’s decision regarding grant programs at Minority-Serving Institutions:

“We are concerned by the U.S. Department of Education’s proposed elimination of federal funding for colleges designated as Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs). These grants play a vital role in supporting student success and funding programs that increase graduation rates, strengthen California’s workforce pipeline, and contribute to economic growth.

“As the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation, we remain committed to expanding access to higher education, advancing student achievement and economic mobility, and increasing the social vitality of the communities we serve.”
