Lamont Shooting - Two Arrests 

September 18, 2025 – Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on September 13, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Lamont Substation responded to the 8900 block of Jeffry Avenue, Lamont, to the reports of shots heard in the area.

Upon arrival, deputies located numerous spent casings in the middle of Jeffry Avenue; as well as spent casings in the front yard of a nearby residence. Through investigation, deputies discovered multiple male subjects were discharging firearms in the middle of Jeffry Street. Deputies served a search warrant on a nearby residence and located three firearms along with ammunition which matched the spent casings located on Jeffry Avenue. A records check of the firearms revealed one firearm to be stolen.

Deputies arrested Celso Benigno, age 37, Illegal discharge of a firearm, Possession of a stolen firearm, Possession of a firearm while under the influence of a controlled substance, Possession of a controlled substance, and False identification to a peace officer.

A male juvenile was also arrested for criminal threats.
