Solo Vehicle Fatal Crash: Driver Dead 

September 23, 2025 – Madera CHP officials report that on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at approximately 7:35 p.m., CHP Madera officers responded to a traffic crash on northbound State Route 99 at State Route 152.

Officers learned the following:

A 65-year-old man from Atwater, CA, was driving a silver Toyota Camry northbound on State Route 99, approaching the State Route 152 split. For reasons still under investigation, he veered off the roadway into the dirt median, where the Toyota collided with a tree. Despite life-saving measures, the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. A 52-year-old woman from Atwater, CA, was seated in the right front passenger seat and sustained minor injuries. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

At this time, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash (pending toxicology results).
