Suspicious Vehicle Call Turns Tragic in Oakhurst 

October 1, 2025 – Madera County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Monday, Deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle on private property off Highway 41 in Oakhurst. It had veered off the road, drove over a bed of granite rock, and stopped near the edge of Nelder Creek. But the driver was not found at the scene.

After canvassing the area, Deputies located a deceased female in the creek below.

Our Search and Rescue Technical Rope Team was called in to assist in recovering the body due to the steep terrain.

Investigators learned the vehicle was linked to a missing person case out of Clovis. They contacted Clovis Police who have since notified the next of kin.

At this time, no foul play is suspected, and the exact cause of death will be determined by autopsy.
