Detectives Make Arrest in 2016 Orange Cove Homicide
October 2, 2025 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 59-year-old Basilio Rodriguez Jr. of Fresno. He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on a charge of murder. His bail is set at $1 million.
On Wednesday, November 23, 2016, Orange Cove Police responded to the Orchard Village Apartment complex (1555 South Ave.) regarding an assault. Responding officers found 25-year-old Angel Esquibel suffering from numerous injuries. He was transported to Reedley Hospital where he passed away. Due to Angel’s death being ruled a homicide, Orange Cove Police requested sheriff’s detectives take over the investigation. Several people were interviewed, but no arrests were made. Recently, new information came to light, which helped detectives identify Basilio Rodriguez Jr. as the killer.
