October 6, 2025 – Merced CHP officials report that on Saturday night, CHP Merced officers located a vehicle matching a “be on the lookout” alert for an impaired driver. Officer Garza and Officer Nires made a traffic stop and determined the driver was operating under the influence. The driver was arrested and removed from the roadway before anyone could be hurt.

In the passenger seat was this unexpected ride along, a tiny pup who instantly stole Officer Garza’s attention. After making sure the little one was safe, Officer Garza shared a moment that reminded everyone why we do what we do, protecting lives, both big and small.

Looks like we might have found our newest K9 recruit, or at least our most adorable one. What do you think we should name our temporary beat partner?
