October 24, 2025 – Merced CHP officials report that officers recently responded to a crash in one of the many rural areas within our jurisdiction. The collision occurred at a four-way intersection with stop signs posted in all directions. Intersections like these can be especially dangerous when drivers fail to come to a complete stop, often resulting in broadside collisions that cause severe damage or injury.

In this incident, one of the vehicles entered the intersection without stopping and traveled directly into the path of another vehicle. Thankfully, there were no fatalities, but it serves as an important reminder of how crucial it is to stop completely and ensure the way is clear before proceeding.

Many of our rural intersections are bordered by orchards, crops, or equipment that can limit visibility. Taking just a few extra seconds to stop, look both ways, and confirm it’s safe to cross can make all the difference in preventing a serious crash.
