Guilty of Child Sexual Abuse
November 5, 2025 – Nevada County District Attorney's Office officials announce that on Thursday, October 30, 2025,
Nevada County jurors reached a unanimous verdict of guilt as to all seven felony charges of child sexual abuse brought against former Nevada County resident Mark Steven Brocke. The presiding judge, the Honorable B. Scott Thomsen, also found true all aggravating factors alleged against the defendant, including findings of great violence, status of the victims as particularly vulnerable, that the defendant took advantage of a relationship of trust, and that the defendant is a serious danger to society. The Court also found true that the defendant’s crimes were increasing in seriousness, noting the defendant’s prior conviction that was associated with his sexual abuse of a minor in or around 2006.
The charges included six counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14 and one count of continuous sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 14. Both of the named victims testified bravely and frankly to the specific conduct they recalled Brocke committed against them, typically when they were isolated from one another or other protective persons.
The case was prosecuted by Supervising Deputy District Attorney Helenaz Hill and investigated by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.
The Defendant faces a maximum potential punishment of 115 years to life for his crime, and will be sentenced on December 19, 2025.
District Attorney Wilson expresses gratitude to the jurors for their service, their careful attention, and their commitment to the rule of law.
Nevada County Sheriff's Office commented: “Cases like these stay with our team forever,” said Sheriff Shannan Moon. “I want to thank our two victims for their incredible courage, DDA Hill, our Nevada County Sheriff’s Office detectives for their tenacity towards justice, and the jury for their attention to detail and for returning a guilty verdict.”
