January 15, 2026 - Sierra National Forest High Sierra Over Snow crew provide the groomer’s report for the upcoming weekend.
There has been no significant recent snowfall, and trail conditions reflect that. At approximately 7,000 feet in elevation, riders should expect bare patches and, in some areas, exposed pavement on trails such as the Huntington Lake Trail. Coverage improves at higher elevations; however, sections of trail with high sun exposure are expected to develop bare spots soon. At higher elevations, riders should also be aware that rocks are beginning to appear.
On Tuesday (1/13/26), the east side of the Bear Butte Trail was groomed to the top. Kaiser Pass was also groomed that afternoon. The trail is groomed from Eastwood Sno-Park to the intersection of the Kaiser Pass Trail and Stump Springs Trail. Kaiser Meadow currently has good coverage with no vegetation showing, though warmer daytime temperatures may change conditions quickly. If riders see grass or tree tops poking through the snow, please avoid those areas to prevent damage to the meadow.
On Wednesday (1/14/26), the Huntington Lake Trail was groomed. The operator reported soft sections and numerous bare spots. Grooming on this trail may be paused until more favorable weather conditions return. Please reduce speed, use caution, and watch out for one another.
