January 31, 2026 - Merced County’s long-term lease to operate Lake Yosemite Park will conclude on January 31, 2026, as
Merced Irrigation District (MID) has decided to proceed with a new operator. While MID owns most of the parkland, the County has proudly managed the park for more than 50 years, recognizing its importance as a valued community resource.
Over the years, the County has made significant investments to enhance the park and its facilities, while also hosting popular community events such as the Merced Lao Boat Racing Festival, amongst many others. In an effort to keep the park affordable and accessible to all residents, the County has operated the park at a significant financial loss in order to provide this important public benefit.
As MID moves forward with its changes to park operations, Merced County hopes future management will continue to prioritize affordability, accessibility, and community benefit so that Lake Yosemite remains a welcoming destination for residents and visitors alike. Our desire is for this transition in service to be successful for the Lake and for the community.
