February 19, 2026 – Nevada County Sheriff’s Office officials held a press conference offering updated information on the recent avalanche near Truckee.

Nevada County Sheriff Shannan Moon reported that the guides for the backcountry skiers were Blackbird Mountain Guides out of Truckee. There were four guides and eleven guest skiers in the group. There were four men and two women in the group that survived. One male guide and five clients survived, two have injuries.

The group started out with nine women and six men, ages 30 to 55.

Eight of the nine missing skiers were located and their locations have been marked. Seven women and two men are among the deceased. Recovery of the bodies will be made once conditions are safer.
