March 23, 2026 – Nevada County Sheriff's Office officials report that NCSO and Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team, Nevada County Sheriff Office logoalong with allied public safety partners, are actively searching for a missing 19-year-old man that was reported to have went under water and did not resurface while swimming in the Truckee River on Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:00 p.m. on March 21, 2026, near Floriston. The man was visiting the river with friends and was from out of the area. The water temperature is approximately 44 degrees with snow melt runoff and heavy currents and is not safe to swim.

The search has been ongoing throughout the weekend by ground and by air, but the missing man has not yet been located. The search will continue Monday with K9 teams, drones, helicopters, swift water rescue teams, rescue swimmers and ground searchers on foot. Assisting Nevada County with the search include Truckee Police, Truckee Fire, CHP Air Ops, and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
