April 30, 2026 - On Wednesday, the California Medical Association (CMA), representing more than 50,000 physicians and medical becerra official ca agstudents across the state, announced its endorsement of Xavier Becerra for Governor of California.

“Xavier Becerra has demonstrated a deep and sustained commitment to improving access to care, protecting patients and supporting physicians throughout his career in public service,” said René Bravo, M.D., president of CMA. “As our healthcare system faces mounting pressures, Xavier Becerra brings the leadership and experience needed to navigate complex issues and protect California communities.”

“I’m honored to have the support of California’s physicians,” said Becerra. “Throughout my career, I’ve worked to expand access to affordable, high-quality care and to protect the integrity of our healthcare system. As Governor, I will partner with physicians and other healthcare leaders to strengthen our workforce, reduce barriers to care, and ensure every Californian can get the care they need when they need it.”

Becerra most recently served as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where he oversaw national health policy during a period of unprecedented strain on the healthcare system. In that role and during his time in Congress, he worked to expand coverage, strengthen public health infrastructure, and support healthcare professionals delivering care on the front lines while keeping patients at the center of every decision.

Becerra also served as California Attorney General, where he defended the Affordable Care Act, protected patient privacy, and advanced policies to improve health equity and access across the state. His record reflects a consistent focus on ensuring that healthcare decisions remain grounded in clinical expertise and patient need.
