May 7, 2026 – Oakhurst CHP officials report that at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning Oakhurst Area units responded to an injury crash on SR 41 near Mecca Lane. It was determined a loose horse was in the roadway. A vehicle traveling on SR 41 northbound observed the horse and came to a stop. Another vehicle traveling in the southbound lane did not observe the horse in the roadway and crashed into it. The vehicle then traveled out of control and crashed into the vehicle stopped in the northbound lane.

The occupants in the vehicle traveling southbound sustained major injuries and the occupants in the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. The roadway was closed in both directions but was reopened just before 6:30 a.m.

As a reminder, always travel at a speed which will allow you to safely react to hazards in the roadway and always use occupant restraint devices.
