MCHS ABC Career Lunches in 2026 

May 12, 2026 – By Lordelyn del Rosario, MCHS Academic Boosters – This year so far brought a diverse group of local professionals to come to speak to students at the monthly Mariposa County High School Academic Boosters Club (ABC) Career Lunches.  

Flora Savage (pictured above), Director of Counseling Services at Mariposa County High School, spoke with the students about her career and how she ended up as a counselor at the high school. Savage, former owner of The Alley in Mariposa Town, started out as a Political Science major in college and transitioned to an Art Major. With an educational background in art, she then went into the counseling field.  To be a counselor, one can major in anything, said Savage. "Everyday is different," said Savage. For her, there was a good work life balance in her counseling career and lots of options to help people.  

Steven Bumgardner (pictured above) from Midpines discussed careers in nature filmmaking. Bumgardner's work focuses on the National Parks of the West. Kristina Rylands joined him to tie in the Upper Merced River Watershed Council's upcoming student film festival. 

Levi Evans (pictured above), a 2004 graduate of Mariposa County High, has been working as a PG&E lineman for 8 years. Evans discussed his journey to his career which included studying to be a PA, an athletic trainer, and transferring to Fresno State for physical therapy. He also worked as an EMT to gain experience. Evans later changed careers to be a PG&E Lineman. His training consisted of being an apprentice with PG& E.

MCHS ABC (Academic Boosters Club) sponsors the monthly career lunches. Local professionals talk with students about the path they took to get where they are today, and they answer students’ questions. MCHS ABC provides lunch from local eateries for students to enjoy while they listen, learn, and have their questions answered.
