“When You Turn 18 Program” Presented at MCHS

May 16, 2026 – The Mariposa County District Attorney’s Office recently presented the program “When You Turn 18” at the Mariposa County High School. This year marked the 19 th year that Mariposa Superior Court Presiding Judge Anita Starchman Bryant arranged the “When You Turn 18” program. Judge Bryant originally began the program when she was a practicing local attorney.

Mariposa County District Attorney Walter Wall, Assistant District Attorney Gerard Egan and Deputy District Attorney Joshua Mireles addressed MCHS seniors in Brooke Collins’, Adam Finney’s and Robert Stitt’s classes.

The speakers enlightened the senior class on topics concerning their new responsibilities upon reaching the age of 18. A range of issues were addressed including driving under the influence, insurance, rental agreements, credit, working and taxes, crimes and consequences, dealing with domestic violence, civil laws and lawsuits, and finding legal help. The program also reviewed the contents of the California Lawyers Foundation publication “When You Turn 18: A Legal Survival Guide,” which the District Attorney’s Office distributed to all MCHS seniors.
