May 16, 2026 – Modoc County Sheriff's Office officials report that on May 14, 2026, at approximately 7:00 P.M., the Modoc County Sheriff logoDispatch Center received a report of a missing two-year-old child in the Cal Pines Subdivision of Modoc County.

Deputies responded and coordinated a search with assistance from the Modoc County Sheriff's Posse, California Highway Patrol, CAL FIRE engine crews, Modoc Medical Center Ambulance crew, SEMSA helicopter, CAL FIRE helicopter, and additional CAL FIRE drone support responding from Susanville.

Shortly after deputies arrived on scene, they located foot tracks near an intersection approximately a quarters mile from where the child was last seen.

At approximately 8:50 P.M., the child was located by a Modoc County Sheriff's Posse member and a CHP officer. She was found approximately 1.5 miles from her residence in a heavily wooded area, about 40 to 50 yards off the roadway.

The Modoc Medical Center Ambulance crew evaluated the child, warmed her up, and treated her for very minor injuries.

"I want to thank all the men and women from the many agencies that assisted with the search and the successful recovery of the child," said Sheriff Tex Dowdy.

The Modoc County Sheriff's Office also extends its appreciation to all assisting agencies, volunteers, and community members who helped bring this search to a successful conclusion.
