JCF Hospital Foundation Member Moves to Healthcare District Board with One Other 

May 24, 2026 – On May 20, the John C. Fremont Healthcare District Board held a special meeting to fill two vacant positions. They had six applicants and chose Jon Wurl and Rob Fox.

Wurl is a long-time Mariposa County resident who was actively involved in the successful 2022 Measure O campaign to support the construction of the new hospital by 2030, mandated by the State of California. Because the current John C. Fremont Hospital dates back to the 1950s, a new hospital is required to comply with California's strict seismic safety requirements.

In addition, Wurl has a background in engineering, technology, and management, and has served on the board of the Mariposa Friends of the Library.

The second appointed interim board member is Rob Fox. Fox is stepping down from his position on the JCF Hospital Foundation board in order to join the Healthcare District board.

“Rob has been a valuable member of our team,” said Foundation president Heather Bernikoff. “We will miss his knowledge and contributions, but appreciate that he has decided to use his skills for the benefit of the Healthcare District. We know he will make a positive difference.”

Fox brings decades of engineering, construction planning, project management, and risk management experience that will support the John C. Fremont Healthcare District as it works to build the new hospital.

These two interim appointments will last only through the end of the year. They are two of the three Healthcare District board positions up for a vote in the November election. Fox and Wurl could decide to run.
