Attempted Murder Suspect Wanted 

May 25, 2026 – Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office officials report that Jonathan Mishael Bays is currently wanted for an attempted murder that occurred on Saturday night on May 23, 2026, at the Creekside Apartments in the town area of Mariposa.

Bays used a large Samurai style sword in the attack striking the victim in the hand, wrist, shoulder and head.

Bays is a 41-year-old White male, 5’11 tall and 180 pounds. He has blue eyes and brown/blonde hair color.

Bays was last seen fleeing the Creekside apartments on foot on a trail heading towards the Jail.

Bays has multiple alias’s and may be known to others by a different name.

Bays is considered ARMED and DANGEROUS do not attempt to contact him.

Update: Law Enforcement Activity - Hwy 49 N from Hwy 140 to Frank Wilson Road

Deputies are still actively searching for a suspect wanted for Attempted Murder following a dispute with subjects at the Creekside apartments.

Drones and helicopters will be operating in the area.

Last seen wearing tan pants, black sweater, black shoes & camo style hat.

May be armed with a large samurai-style sword.

DO NOT approach or engage. Call 911 immediately with any sightings or information.

The suspect is wanted out of Idaho with an absconding arrest warrant. He now also has an arrest warrant in Mariposa County for attempted murder.
