June 16, 2026 – Mariposa County Health & Human Services officials announce high temperatures expected this week.

With temperatures expected to reach the high 90's multiple days this week, we wanted to take a moment to remind our residents of the importance of keeping hydrated, and cool during a heat wave. At this time temperatures are not expected to reach the threshold required to open cooling centers.

In order for a cooling center to open, temperatures must be forecasted to be at 105 or more degrees for three or more hours and for three consecutive days, with overnight temperatures failing to cool to between 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit. Mariposa County Health and Human Services works very closely with the National Weather Service and our local Office of Emergency Services to monitor the forecasted weather and evaluate the need for opening cooling centers in Mariposa County.

However, public facilities are options for cooling off if needed such as the Library (don't forget to grab a good book while you're there!), the Mariposa County pools and the Senior Center (join us for lunch!).

We have locations prepared in different areas in the county which we can open as needed, if you are in need of other assistance, please reach out to us at 1-209-966-2000.
