June 19, 2026 - Sierra National Forest Officials announce with a big push to increase public access this Father’s Day weekend, several key recreation sites across the Sierra National Forest are ready to welcome visitors once again. After months of coordination, hard work, inspections, and final touch-ups, these popular destinations are reopening just in time!

WHAT’S REOPENING

  • • Forest Order 05-15-00-26-06 modification; Recreation Sites, Roads & Trails — Kinnikinnick Campground and the Florence Lake Picnic Area are now open
  • • Florence Lake facilities — including the picnic and day-use area, boat ramp, and parking area — are complete, inspected, and fully ready for public use as of June 17
  • • Forest Order 05-15-51-25-21 closure terminated — Mammoth Pool Boat Ramp has officially been transferred back to the Forest Service following successful rehabilitation by Southern California Edison (SCE)

These milestones reflect a strong partnership and significant focus to restore access safely and efficiently. SNF Road Crews, in coordination with contractors and our cooperator SCE,  all worked together to complete repairs, conduct inspections, and ensure everything is ready for a smooth reopening experience.
